Grape Coralo Sculpture By Milly Dent

330 x 260 x 280mm

Celebrated ceramicist and designer, Milly Dent, reimagines the everyday through handcrafted ceramic tableware, sculpture, and lighting.

Grape Coralo Sculpture, the second piece in this series, also seeks to capture the beauty of the underwater world, using stoneware clay and a white glaze to shape a abstract growing form that appears to be expanding and filling voids on all surfaces across the body of the form. Employing meticulous handbuilding techniques and wheel thrown intricate detailing, I draw inspiration from the allure of corals found at the ocean floor, as if they were delicately pulled from the depths of the sea.

My work delves into the relationship between humans and the ocean, based on my own connection and emotional charge with this body of water. My focus lies in the captivating world of rockpools and the intertidal space.

The delicate yet resilient nature of the corals resonates with me, symbolizing the fragile balance of marine life that depends on its presence. My intention is to spark awareness and inspire action in the preservation and restoration of our oceans' life source. I believe that if we do not swiftly alter our personal relationships with the environment, our oceans will face irreparable devastation by 2050. Ultimately, this body of work seeks to illuminate the beauty, complexity, and vulnerability of the oceanic world.
