Resin, Blue Morpho butterfly

A single Blue Morpho butterfly is suspended within a deep black resin panel, its vivid iridescent blue creating a striking contrast against the dark resin.
As light moves across the surface, the wings shift in tone and intensity, revealing subtle depth and movement.
Designed as a sculptural object for the home, the piece can be displayed on its custom steel shelf, a bookshelf or console.

ABOUT RHOLTSU 

Lochlan Sutherland (Rholtsu) is an Australian artist working with preserved natural specimens and resin to create unique sculptural works.
Based in Melbourne, Lochlan’s practice explores the relationship between nature, preservation and contemporary materials. 

Each piece carefully incorporates real specimens within resin, allowing their delicate forms, textures and colours to be suspended and preserved in time.
The interaction between light and resin is central to the work, revealing layers, shadows and intricate details within each piece. His works sit between natural history and contemporary sculpture, transforming fragile specimens into enduring objects.
