ABOUT ANGUS WHITE
Born in Melbourne in 1998 and now based in Paris, Angus White is a painter whose work explores the fleeting nature of human experience through abstraction. With a background in architecture and public art, his practice is grounded in a deep sensitivity to space, structure, and perception. His paintings blur the boundaries between form and figure, spontaneity and control, transforming everyday rhythms into a visual language of movement, stillness, and memory.
In this latest series, Angus steps further away from representation, using mark-making, gesture, and texture to evoke presence and place. Each work feels like an echo—of a moment, a space, or an encounter, translated onto canvas with precision and emotion.
His work has been widely recognised. In 2023, Angus was awarded the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship, and prior to that, the ARM Prize for Architectural Excellence. Most recently, he completed a residency at La Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, supported by the Art Gallery of New South Wales, where much of this new series was developed.
With recent solo exhibitions in Melbourne and Sydney, and a growing presence in national art prizes, Angus continues to establish himself as one of Australia’s most compelling emerging painters.
