Alex Schubert is a Sydney/Gadigal-based leadlighter and Founder of Woffel Glass. His work is grounded in preserving the traditional methods and culture of glass, while bringing his own style to the trade across residential, commercial and contemporary spaces.
Drawing on both timeless design and more abstract, subjective ideas, his process always begins with his own drawings and ends in his own designs, ranging from delicate and refined to bold, textured and richly coloured.
Alex trained as a traditional signwriter, completing his trade in 2012 and working in hand-painted signage until 2016. That same commitment to craft carried through when he moved into leadlighting, drawing him to Australia's small community of glass artists and to collaborations with some of the best tradespeople in the field.
