We’re proud to introduce Angus White to RAINBOW STUDIOS with an exclusive new body of work, now available both online and in the showroom.
Born in Melbourne in 1998 and now based in Paris, Angus White is a painter whose work explores the fleeting nature of human experience through abstraction. With a background in architecture and public art, his practice is grounded in a deep sensitivity to space, structure, and perception. His paintings blur the boundaries between form and figure, spontaneity and control, transforming everyday rhythms into a visual language of movement, stillness, and memory.
In this latest series, Angus steps further away from representation, using mark-making, gesture, and texture to evoke presence and place. Each work feels like an echo—of a moment, a space, or an encounter, translated onto canvas with precision and emotion.
His work has been widely recognised. In 2023, Angus was awarded the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship, and prior to that, the ARM Prize for Architectural Excellence. Most recently, he completed a residency at La Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, supported by the Art Gallery of New South Wales, where much of this new series was developed.
With recent solo exhibitions in Melbourne and Sydney, and a growing presence in national art prizes, Angus continues to establish himself as one of Australia’s most compelling emerging painters.

Angus, we’ve followed your work for a while and we’re excited to have this collection. Can you tell us more about it?
This collection was created during a recent month in Melbourne after spending a year living in Paris. I returned to Australia wanting to reconnect with figurative painting, which has always felt like home. These works bring together the abstract techniques I’ve explored in recent years with my habit of constantly sketching people and moments from everyday life. The focus is on emotion, gesture, and colour, reflecting both where I started and how my approach has evolved.
What’s next for your art this year?
At the moment, I’m continuing a new body of work in Paris that began during a residency supported by the Art Gallery of NSW. I’m also starting a group of paintings that I’ll bring back to Australia for a few upcoming exhibitions. Later this year, I’ll be moving to London to begin my studies at the Royal College of Art. My aim is to keep developing my practice, experimenting with new ideas, and challenging myself creatively.

What do you love most about being an artist?
I love the sense of constant progress and discovery. Each time I start a new piece, I learn something unexpected. That feeling of not knowing exactly what will happen, but trusting the process, keeps me motivated. There’s always more to explore, and that journey gives me a real sense of purpose.
Tell us a little about yourself and your journey.
I’ve been drawing since I was a kid who found it easier to communicate through images than words. In the final semester of architecture school, I took a painting elective and quickly became obsessed. I’ve since created around 500 paintings, exhibited my work in solo and group shows, and was awarded the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship. What started as a personal passion has become my full-time focus, and I’m excited to keep growing and seeing where it takes me.
