We Make Love Then We Make Lunch by Liam Riley
We Make Love Then We Make Lunch, Liam Riley sequences photographs he had gathered over the past 5 years. Taken across multiple continents, (Australia, Asia and Europe) the photographs come together through the poetic thread in James Bishop's text snippets. Lyrical, eloquent yet brutally honest, the words inform the photographs and the photographs then inform the words through a curious relationship. Similar to how images on a film strip have a relationship to the shot before and after them, so do the pictures and words in the book, carrying over residual impressions to each new page. This was part of the process of constructing the book.
Riley would cut up the images and the snippets lay them out on a big table and play with the positioning and rhythm of the words and photographs. It is through this playfulness that Riley is able to provide fluidity to the work, whilst challenging the book as a format.
